About Khatija Possum
Khatija Possum is a contemporary First Nations artist born in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Hailing from a family of well-known artists, Khatija grew up watching her grandfather and mother paint and was inspired by their styles of traditional storytelling.
“I’m forever thankful to have been surrounded by such talent and to share in the beautiful stories of my grandpa, mother, uncle and aunties. Painting, for me, is life. I am blessed to now tell these stories from where I’m from, through my art. It’s simply magical.”
As a third-generation artist and mother herself, Khatija is a powerful advocate for a First Nations-led contemporary art movement and the role it plays in keeping culture heritage strong.
“Women's Ceremony” is a beautiful ode to the deeply spiritual ceremonial sites that surround Tjukurla in the western desert of Central Australia, traditional homelands of Khatija’s great grandmother.
